Link Selection Policy

The Patient&Family Resource Center has created and maintains a web page of selected, organized links to web sites that reflects and responds to the information needs of past, present and potential patients of NYU Medical Center, their family members and caregivers.

The goal for this web page is not to be comprehensive source for general health information, rather it will remain specific to the information needs of NYU Medical Center patients. Links are chosen to reflect the diseases and conditions leading people to need treatment at NYU Medical Center , along with links to related basic, consumer-friendly reference tools as well as related health care issues such as support groups, caregiving and health insurance.

Link selection will be driven both by the resources and specialties of NYU Medical Center and the high-volume information requests of the Patient&Family Resource Center 's users.

The Patient & Family Resource Center will choose web sites based on the following selection criteria:

  • Reliability: Content is provided or selected by established, reputable sources who are clearly identified.
  • Currency: Site has easily identifiable “last updated” indications, and /or content has clearly visible “created on / reviewed / updated” dates.
  •   Purpose: Site is intended to be educational or informational.
  • Audience: Site is aimed at consumers, or has portions of its content aimed at consumers.
  • Lack of Bias: Any advertisements appearing on the site are clearly labeled as such. Any relationships to recommended entities are disclosed.
  • Content: For topic-specific sites, the content of the site should relate to the conditions, diseases and treatments related to NYU Medical Center.
